The American Association for the Advancement of Science and the journal
Science has released a new website for researchers in the field of
aging and
related fields. This resource, called the Science of Aging Knowledge
Environment (SAGE KE), was funded by the Ellison Medical Foundation.
The
editor-in-chief of SAGE KE is Dr. George Martin, a member of the
Ellison
Medical Foundation Scientific Advisory Board. SAGE KE Scientific
Advisory
Board members are Drs. Steven Austad, Judith Campisi, Paul Coleman,
Douglas
Wallace, Leonard Guarente, Cynthia Kenyon, Richard Miller, and Phyllis
Wise.
SAGE KE was designed to help researchers stay abreast of advancements
in
this diverse field of study. SAGE features content of interest to many
types
of researchers, including, among others, human geneticists, molecular
geneticists, evolutionary biologists, physiologists, neurobiologists,
field
biologists, and cell, structural, and molecular biologists working in
diverse experimental systems, such as yeast, flies, worms, mice, bats,
rats,
birds, cultured cells, and primates. In addition, SAGE KE offers
researchers
an opportunity to create a virtual community where investigators come
together for information exchange and discussion.
The SAGE KE features were created on the basis of extensive interviews
conducted with researchers in the field of aging. These features
include
Original Content (Reviews,
Perspectives, News, Viewpoint Articles, Case Studies, and Hot Topic
Orientations), a SAGE Virtual Journal, Discussion Forums,
Personalization
Features, a Meetings and Events Calendar, Funding Information, Trainee
Resources, Web Resources, a Library of Classic Aging Papers, a Genes
Database, and a novel browse-search tool called the Knowledge Map.
