Telemakus: Caloric Restriction & Nutritional Aspects in Aging Database now available Telemakus: Caloric Restriction & Nutritional Aspects in Aging Database
We are very pleased to invite you to use the Caloric Restriction &
Nutritional Aspects in Aging database using the Telemakus interface at http://www.telemakus.net
The database currently includes 70-75% of the articles reporting
original research in the area of caloric restriction in aging
literature from 1975 forward. As new research is published the
articles are added to the database as quickly as possible. In
addition, we are expanding the coverage to include nutritional aspects
of aging -- beyond caloric restriction.
A key feature of the Telemakus interface is a consistent presentation of research methods and findings as well as a unique approach to
dynamically mapping and visually exploring research relationships
among a set of retrieved documents. Once you have retrieved a set of
documents of interest, clicking the "map it" function (requires Java 1.3+, instructions for downloading are included)at the bottom of
the document set will generate a dynamic map of research findings. You
can explore the mapped research findings in a variety of ways. The default search setting is 'Research Findings' or you can select
another search field, including Authors, Research Findings, Organisms, and Source of Organisms from the main search box.
The database and interface are constantly evolving: searching and
mapping tools are in continual development and the database is updated
daily. We are especially interested in your feedback. We welcome your suggestions of additional published original research articles for inclusion in the database. You can easily submit your suggestions through an online link form on the Telemakus homepage.
We hope you will find Telemakus useful and look forward to your
comments. In particular we are interested in whether this approach to
access and presentation of research findings promotes knowledge
discovery by identifying target areas for further research.
We are very grateful to the Ellison Medical Foundation for funding for
the development of this database.

Notes for accessing the Telemakus interface to Caloric
Restriction & Nutritional Aspects in Aging database:

We've found that using the most recent versions of Internet
Explorer or Netscape work best. Also older Macintoshes have been
reported to have some problems with the database. Newer Macintoshes
work fine.
Access to some of the full-text documents, including the Tables &
Figures listed in the schemas, will be determined by licenses or
subscriptions. You may receive an error message if your institution
does not have a license agreement with a journal publisher.
