1999 New Scholar, Weidong Wang, Wins Presidential Award
An Ellison Medical Foundation New Scholar Awardee for 1999, Dr. Weidong Wang, National Institute on Aging, NIH, was one of 60 researchers honored with receiving the fourth annual Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. His award reads "For innovative analysis of protein complexes and genes that regulate development and aging." This is the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on young professionals at the outset of their independent research careers. President Clinton, who established the PECASE awards in February 1996, honored the recipients at a ceremony April 12 at the White House. Awardees receive up to a 5-year research grant to further their studies.
